Bollywood blast in Garo Hills

Saldorik S Dio grew up watching Bollywood musical programmes on Doordarshan. So the blend of Indie-pop and Indie-rock in his songs will not be surprising.

The 26-year-old singer from Ruga Meguani village in South West Garo Hills’ Ampati came into the local music industry after graduation. “I am a lover of Bollywood music and so I am inspired by it. I grew up watching DD National and Metro channels, where they would broadcast shows like Ranggoli and Chitrahar. Apart from that, I am inspired by two of the very famous Bollywood singers — Arijit Singh and Atif Aslam… Arijit is a versatile singer,” he says.

Saldorik has performed in more than 100 shows in Meghalaya, besides touring Assam and Hyderabad. The pandemic halted last year’s plans but the artiste says he will come up with new compositions this year.

The observant musician is inspired by people and the varied hues of their lives. “My thought process is simple. I get ideas when I interact with people. Some of my songs are based on my life experiences,” says the singer.
