Burglar nabbed with loot

Tura, Sep 24: One person was arrested by the West Garo Hills (WGH) yesterday after he was caught with at least 19 mobile phones, accessories and cash he had stolen from a shop in Hallidayganj.
The person has been identified as Jamal Sheikh, a resident of Mandarpara – Sukhchar in South Salmara district had broken the lock of the shop before making away with the loot and cash. He was part of a gang of miscreants that had been involved in the burglary.
Police began an investigation into the case after the owner of the shop filed a police complaint on the burglary.
“Through sustained investigation, we arrested one of the accused (Sheikh) and recovered 19 mobile phones from his possession. We are on the lookout for the other members of the same gang or burglars,” said the superintendent of police, WGH, Vivekanand Singh.
A case – (03/05/2021) under section 380/457 IPC has been filed at the Hallidayganj PS. The town shares a border with Assam.
Meanwhile, the SP has warned against buying phones from people without genuine receipts being provided by them saying the same is a criminal offence under Section 411.
