Conrad urges legislators to visit Covid wards

Shillong, June 14: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has suggested that state legislators visit the Covid-19 wards for better understanding and the difficulties faced by the doctors and other health workers in combating the virus.
“I had suggested that why not all of the members visit some of the Covid care units, wear the PPEs that the doctors and nurses are wearing, go through the conditions that they go through and then we will be in a better position to realize what kind of challenges they face,” Sangma told reporters after a review meeting chaired by the Assembly Speaker here today.
He said that the Speaker has assured to look into the matter. “I have suggested this and I hope that I will get a positive response from them as I am willing at any time,” the CM added.
He said that this will send a very good and positive signal to ensure everybody feels that members are also involved and it will give confidence to the health workers. It will also allow the legislatures and decision-makers to really decide after seeing the challenges faced by the health workers, Sangma added.
“I have gone to the Covid wards myself in Garo Hills, I have seen what the doctors and nurses go through, it is a very difficult situation and it is a very tough battle – therefore to be really able to see things from their perspective, sometimes it is important for important decision making we are doing at our level,” he said.
