Covid frontliners put up in housing project

Nongpoh, May 23: The Ri Bhoi district administration in coordination with the department of Urban Affairs department has temporarily identified Housing for Urban Poor residences to accommodate the doctors and nurses are at the frontlines of the fight against Covid-19.
It may be mentioned that the project of housing for the Urban Poor was sanctioned by the Urban Affairs department and constructed at Umbuda village in Nongpoh.
To take stock of the pending construction that needs to be done, district officials led by Deputy Commissioner, RM Kurbah inspected the site along with the Urban Affairs department engineer S Langstieh, Nongpoh Town Committee Chairman CB Syiem along with the Health Department officials.
Kurbah said that this decision to temporarily dedicate the houses constructed under the project was taken because many doctors and nurses who are working to contain the virus are presently staying with their families members which is a concern as it can lead to the spread of the virus to their family members.
She also said that, due to the unavailability of government quarters to accommodate the doctors and nurses, the district administration to take this step in temporarily dedicate this government structure for the health workers.
Kurbah also said that after the inspection, it was found that most of the houses constructed under the project are now completed. “44 units have been completed and only water and electricity connection needs to be taken care of with the line departments and it is also expected that these few issues will be taken care of within a week’s time,” Kurbah said.
