Drugs worth over Rs 5 crore seized

Nongpoh, Aug 19: Police from the Jorabat Outpost have arrested two persons and seized 660 grams of heroin worth over Rs. 5 crore from them.

Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a checking for the suspected vehicle this morning at Jorabat. When the suspected truck (MN 04 9866) reached the place where the checking was being conducted, it was stopped and a thorough checking of the vehicle led to the recovery of the drugs.

It is informed that, Assam police recovered around over 60 packets of suspected heroin weighing about 660 gram which were packed in plastic soap cases and concealed in the engine cover of the truck which was bound for Manipur.

In this case, Assam police has detained the driver of the vehicle identified as MD Warish (26) of Thoubal district of Manipur and one Jennyson Tayenjam (20) also from Thoubal district.

Assam police also recovered Rupees 45000 in cash from the driver along with 2 mobile phones.

Further investigation on this case is presently underway.
