Farmers’ problems to be looked into: Banteidor

Staff Reporter
Shillong, June 7: Agriculture Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh has informed that he would soon conduct an inspection to the various markets to address the problems faced by the farmers.
“I will go for an inspection of these markets including the one set up at Anjalee parking lot within a day or two to see what are the problems being faced by our farmers,” Lyngdoh said today.
The minister admitted that only few buyers are allowed to enter these markets due to the restriction on the movement of people imposed by the district administration.
It may be mentioned here that the farmers have expressed concern that they could not sell their agricultural produce due to less buyers.
Lyngdoh said that the problem is also with the timing. “We cannot say that farmers can come and sell their produce from 9 am to 1 pm as this time is too less but now we are giving more time from 6 am to 4-5 pm meaning that they can sell their produce,” he said.
The Minister said that the department is also helping the farmers to transport their agricultural produce outside the state as there is a huge demand. He said vegetables from the state are also going to Assam, Mizoram and other states of the region.
