GHADC employee given two-day transfer notice

Shillong, Sept 24: In a shocking development, the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) has given one of its employees notice of only two days regarding his transfer.
Rosepika R Marak, a Chowkidar working in GHADC Tura was handed the transfer order yesterday wherein he was informed that he has been transferred to Baghmara Range under the Forest Department, GHADC with immediate effect.
The order which was signed by the Principal Secretary to the Executive Committee of the GHADC also directed Marak to join the Baghmara Range ‘within 2(two) days from the date of issue of the order’.
Interestingly, Marak was also directed to vacate the office quarter within two days which has left him in a quandary as he is presently just recovering from an illness.
To add to his woes, Marak’s mother and wife are also unwell.
Marak is the sole bread earner of his family and is now wondering how he will manage to comply with the order while also finding someone to look after the care of his mother and wife who are both ailing.
Matters could have been sorted out easily if Marak could have hired someone to look into these necessities but this is presently out of the question for him as he, along with many of the GHADC staff, is yet to get his salary which has been left pending for a long time.
Such is the financial crunch that the family is in that his children have been compelled to sell chana-mix in Tura town to eke out a living.
