Govt sanctions Rs. 109 cr for improvement of schools

Shillong, Sept 17: The state government has sanctioned Rs 109 crore for improvement of 191 schools across the state during the current financial year.
This was informed by the Minister-in-charge Education Lahkmen Rymbui while replying to a query by Congress legislator from Mawsynram Himalaya Shangpliang in the Assembly today.
Rymbui said that the present government is the first government which has looked into the government schools all over the state.
Of the 191 schools to be taken up, 10 are secondary and higher secondary schools, 4 are upper primary schools and 3 lower primary schools.
“The Rs 109 crore sanctioned from the state scheme will ensure that these schools are not only provided with buildings but will also basic furniture, we will try to improve,” he said.
On the concern expressed by Shangpliang over the delay to repair the government schools which are in a dilapidated condition, Rymbui said the government has sanctioned Rs 8.20 lakh for the additional classroom for Phlangwanroy government LP school and Rs 10 lakh for Lalpani LP government school.
He also informed that the construction of new school buildings for two government LP schools under Mawsynram block have been approved from 2018 till date under the state scheme.
