Here she goes

Fennyzabeth Syiem could be the next music sensation in Shillong. The 18-year-old student of St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School recently released her debut music video Here I Go, along with Nicky Marwein, on YouTube.

Originally from Nongstoin, Syiem studied in Anderson Higher Secondary School in Nongstiiñ before shifting to Shillong for better educational opportunities. Currently, she is preparing for the HSSLC examinations.
It was at a function in Nongstoin where the reporter first heard the young singer. Her mellifluous voice left the audience spellbound and wondering whether she was a professional singer. “She has got some talent,” the reporter heard many among the guests say.

Syiem started singing at the age of nine “but I was not too serious about it back then”, she confesses. At 14, she joined a choir. “I learnt many things from there but I did not really get the spotlight. So I left and started doing my vocal exercises by watching YouTube videos,” says the self-taught singer, who is also learning to play a few instruments.

The singer says she wants to make a career in music because that is what she wanted since childhood. “But if I cannot make a mark, then it will remain my cherished hobby and I will go on to pursue medical studies,” she says.

As a child, Syiem adored the girl group Little Mix and dreamt of performing on stage. Her favourite artiste is Perrie Edwards, who is a member of the English band Little Mix. “Her vocals are out of this universe,” says Syiem, who is busy with her board examination for the moment and will plunge into music again once the exam is over.
