Load shedding in effect again

Shillong, April 23: The Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) today decided to impose three-hour load shedding in the entire state from midnight of April 24.
“It is unfortunate that due to the shortage of power caused by the maintenance shutdown of 1 unit of the OTPC Palatana Power Station and delayed monsoons in Meghalaya resulting in a shortfall of 2-2.5 MU per day, we are having to resort to load shedding commencing from midnight tonight,” Power Minister James K Sangma said in a statement today.
“Keeping in mind the present examinations taking place in the State, we have tried to minimize the inconvenience caused to students by limiting the load shedding to 3 hours. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to the public of Meghalaya,” he added.
The minister assured that the Power department along with the MeECL is making all efforts to try and resolve this issue at the earliest.
