Shillong, Sep 20: With ‘Stay Home – Stay Safe’ having set as the norm today, most people are hesitant to leave the safety of their own homes. Even while venturing out, it has been made mandatory on each and every one to don a face mask so as to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Understandably, this has created a new market for the supply of these face masks wherein many have taken up this opportunity to set up their own businesses in this sector as has Jane Garcia Pathaw.
Jane designs her masks as per the specifications and whims of her customers and even ensures that these are delivered to their doorstep when finished.
An entrepreneur in every sense of the word, Jane took her childhood interest in designing dresses and sewing and took it to a whole new level as per the needs of the day. Realising that there is a market in the mask making sector, she launched her mask making business and has not looked back since.
“With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, my interest gradually shifted from designing clothes to styling masks,” she said. What started off as a small venture grew rapidly with many satisfied customers returning for more products.
Jane’s business is completely online based where customers take to her Instagram page – Craft_Corner_Shillong and check out a wide range of products and make their selection.
“My masks are of all sorts ranging from embroidered ones to highly intricate beaded ones,” Jane says when asked about how her masks differ from others.
When asked about how she handles the burden of motherhood and an entrepreneur, Jane says, “I have not faced any problems so far and this is largely due to the immense support from my family members who have stood by me all the way. They have been my mentors and my inspiration.”
