Meghalaya records highest single day spike

Shillong, April 14: Meghalaya recorded its highest single-day spike of Covid-19 cases with 100 new infections being detected today.

Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said the new cases include 59 in East Khasi Hills district, 29 in West Jaintia Hills district, 6 in Ri Bhoi district, 3 in West Khasi Hills district, 2 in East Jaintia Hills district and 1 in West Garo Hills district.

He informed 5 patients have also recovered from the viral infection of which 2 are from East Khasi HIlls, 2 from Ri Bhoi and 1 from West Garo Hills

So far, the state has detected a total of 14,485 Covid-19 cases out of which 363 are active cases, 13,971 recovered and 151 deaths.

East Khasi Hills has 270 active cases, West Jaintia Hills 56, Ri Bhoi 21, East Jaintia Hills 6, West Garo Hills 5, West Khasi Hills 4 and South West Khasi Hills 1.

On the other hand, of the 4,27,651 persons who have undergone Covid-19 testing in the state as on date, 4,13,166 were tested negative for the virus even as 95 persons are in institutional quarantine and 168 under home quarantine.

He also informed that there have been 1,03,442 entrants from outside the state.

On the other hand, 22, 717 healthcare workers had received the first dose of Covishield vaccine and 16,369 had received the second dose, while 33,686 frontline workers got the first shot of the vaccine and 21,608 got the second dose as of today. Moreover, 58,569 persons from among the general public were vaccinated with the first dose and 5,117 were inoculated with the second dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 across the state.
