NGOs demand reduction of oil prices

Jowai, Feb 15: NGOs based in West Jaintia Hills district today called on the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the district, Garod LSN Dykes to demand for a reduction in the price of petrol and diesel and also taxi fares.

In their meeting with the DC, the leaders of the Jaintia Youth Federation (JYF), Meghalaya People’s United Front (MPUF), Jaiñitia Student Movement (JSM), Jaintia Student Union (JSU) and Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) pointed out that the rise in the price of petrol and diesel has resulted in a huge problem for those who depend on running commercial vehicles as a source of livelihood.

They also said that this has also affected parents of students who have to send their children to school every day via commercial vehicles.

The NGOs said that the government has to find a way to reduce the price of petrol and diesel in the state while adding that under the present circumstances, the people are facing immense hardship.
