Police arrest sex workers, clients

Shillong, July 7: The East Khasi Hills Police arrested six people including three sex workers from Shillong city.
The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of East Khasi Hills district conducted a raid yesterday following complaints regarding the presence of sex workers operating in the Barik-Dhankheti road and many people were seen coming in vehicles as clients.
During the raid, three sex workers along with 3 clients were apprehended, district police chief Sylvester Nongtnger said in a statement issued here today.
He informed that a case has been registered at the Laitumkhrah police station under the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act and legal action is taken up.
“Henceforth, to prevent this sort of activity in the area apart from booking sex workers, clients also apprehended in the area will face legal action under the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act and the Meghalaya Police Act,” the SP said.
