Shullai extends aid to fight Covid

Shillong, June 15: BJP legislator from South Shillong Sanbor Shullai on Tuesday extending financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to 14 local Covid-19 Committees, Dorbar Shnongs and Welfare Committees under his constituency.
The financial assistance, which has been borne out of the MLA’s salary, was given during a meeting of the Covid-19 committee headed by Shullai as chairman.
The objective of the meeting was to discuss and implement measures to help ease people’s difficulties, address livelihood issues, spread correct information, reduce fear, avoid chaotic situations, lower stigma across all sections of society and in doing so keep the safety of all citizens as top priority.
The MLA has decided to provide financial assistance to BPL families, which includes taxi drivers, teer counter employees, handicapped people and various other daily wage earners who have been hit hard by the lockdown.
The MLA also said that his office has been open every day for the people since the beginning of lockdown and that he has been providing financial and other necessary services in the form of ambulances or mortuary vans to the affected families free of cost.
“These services will continue to be provided through the respective Dorbar Shnongs and CCMT,” he said.
Shullai also informed that he will further assist organizations and individuals who are helping in providing essentials and Covid relief materials in their respective localities.
Besides this, frontline workers and service providers such as ASHA and Anganwadi workers, municipal and cantonment field staff, mortuary and ambulance ferrying teams among others will also be provided financial aid as support for their selfless services.
