Social activist flags overcharging of fare

Tura, June 15: Activist Nilbath Ch Marak today submitted a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of East Garo Hills after taxi services from Williamnagar to Shillong allegedly charged Rs 2,000 per person.

In his complaint Marak complained that the said charges were extremely high and unaffordable.

“They also do not display the rate of their exorbitant fares, even in the tickets they serve to customers. The situation has become unbearable for customers and most cannot afford the fares, despite their need to go to the capital city,” said Marak. Marak complained that the sudden price hike was unbearable as compared to the pre-pandemic rates and sought the intervention of authorities into the matter.
